Possible thyroid complications causing worry

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to ask a couple of questions to hear your opinions. I completed all treatments in September 19. I was having leg and muscle pain that was pretty rough so I was put on gabapentin. Things got really better for a few weeks and I started feeling tired and my joints flared back up. Lots of swelling in face and hands. Just had my thyroid tested and in 3 months it jumped from .4 to 33.7. I will be undergoing more test but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced something like this and what the result ended up being. I’m panicking a little bit but hoping for the best. I really want to get back in the swing again and take care of my kiddos

Are those values for your TSH? I had autoimmune hypothyroidism before chemotherapy, with my thyroid gland being about 30% functional. I was in near complete thyroid failure by the end of chemotherapy so I am guessing that either the chemotherapy itself attacks the thyroid gland or the Neulasta stimulated production of more anti tpo antibodies which launched an all out attack on my thyroid gland. In any case, that's the direction it was heading on it's own, and cancer treatment just sped that up for me.

Thank u for responding to me. Those numbers are mine. I was pretty shocked at such a number jump and I can definitely feel the difference in my body. I have been falling asleep or just crashing on the coach in the evening. Today two of my kids were worried enough to ask their dadif I was sick again. It is so hard to explain to them it just tears me up. I hope to get some reassuring news next week, but I am scared and this is the only place I can even say that out loud. I can sense the frustration with my hubby at another setback. According to him I’m all better and we r done with cancer. On a brighter note and what I am focusing on is I had a mini makeover form my 8 yr old like we used to do! She was even able to get some bows in my short hair. It really made my day. Thank you so much for listening. I’ll keep you informed on my outcomes next week.

I’ve had hypothyroidism for many years. I’ve had it go hyper two times also. This was years before my cancer diagnosis. I went up to 25 at one point. They were able to control it by upping my dosage of thyroid medication. Were you already diagnosed with hypothyroid or this is new? I’m afraid I can’t comment on what caused it.

I, too, have been treated for hypothyroidism for years. I was taking HRT before my bc dx and stopped immediately upon dx. My thyroid got wacky and my PCP adjusted meds and told me estrogen affects the thyroid and this was likely the culprit. The change in dosage took care of it. All of your sx are indicative of hypothyroidism and if this is all it is, it is pretty manageable w meds. Just so you know, if Synthroid is rxed, many people have problems w the generic but do fine w name brand. My insurance wouldn’t pay for it, but it’s pretty cheap so I just paid out of pocket. I am currently on a Medicare part D plan and they do cover the name brand and I pay $6.00 for a 90 day supply. I hope they get this straightened out for you. The good news is, if it’s just hypothyroidism, the meds only take a few days to start working. I felt like the walking dead before my dx and once started Synthroid I was normal in less than a week. I was on Synthroid for a long time. I switched to Armour. Just letting you know there are options. I also heard there are issues with generic, so try to get brand if you have to go on medicine.
