haven't been here in a while. So quick recap. I carry BRCA2 mutation, discovered in 2016. Oncologist recommended complete hysterectomy and double mastectomy with nipple sparing procedures due to MANY family members with breast cancer. Had that all done fall 2016. Biopsy of removed tissue showed DCIS under nipple area so had both removed 2 weeks later. Implants put in feb 2017.

Fast forward to this year; been having pain in the fat roll under my breast area on left side. Kind of like nerve pain. My breast surgeon said PMPS WAS LIKELY, but wanted a cat scan to look for any thing else. Results negative. Ordered a MRI, that was last Thursday. Got results on Friday saying contrast showed a mass on left side. Needing ultrasound. Went for ultrasound on Monday and a mammogram, even though I have always been told couldn't do a mammogram with implants after mastectomy or at least not needed. Results were unusual lymph node under arm pit and concerning spots in the capsule surrounding implant. 2 needle biopsies performed yesterday. Results today were benign lymph node, but reoccurrence of DCIS IN left breast. Appointment scheduled with my surgeon on Friday.

Overwhelmed with many feelings right now.how exactly does one get DCIS A second time when I have no breast tissue left after having absolutely everything removed????I am angry, and confused and I don't know what questions I should ask. I had some but so much in my head right now I have forgotten.

edited to say that this found cancer was UNRELATED TO the pain I have been having in the fat roll. That’s a completely different situation and currently on the back burner till this is figured out

Even though you had an excellent surgeon, it’s impossible for them to get every last teeny tiny cell. Happened to me. BMX, surgery, rads. 4 1/3 years AI.

7 years later, it was back on the other side nodes.

    Silverpullet,

As Spookiesmom mentioned, even with a MX, it's never possible for the surgeon to remove every single cell of breast tissue. This is why after a MX, there is still a 1%-2% chance of recurrence, and there is also a 1%-2% chance that a new breast cancer could develop. For someone who is BRCA positive, these risks may even be a bit higher. It's a low risk, but it's going to be someone and unfortunately it is you.

I can only imagine your shock at this happening, particularly since this risk was never explained to you. The small bit of good news in with this bad news is that at least this is DCIS and not invasive cancer.

Let us know what your surgeon says.
