Radiation BEFORE Mastectomy

Has anyone had radiation before your mastectomy? I have my surgery scheduled for 1/27/20, but my oncologist thinks I need radiation first. I have a consult with the radiation oncologist on Monday 1/20 and then they’ll decide what the best course of action is.

I’m feeling very confused because the surgeon thinks I’m good to have surgery.

Any input/info if you had radiation first would be very helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey PikNik good luck for your surgery. what i believe is that your radiation therapy before the surgery has been decided for reducing the size of the tumor before the surgery could be performed and also to kill any remaining cancerous cells so that they can be easily removed during surgery, pretty much like neo adjuvant chemotherapy performed before the surgery. i personally feell that its perfectly okay if your doctor feels this way. It's their waork and they perform it the best so no need to worry about it.

    Good luck and god bless.
