Low lymphocytes??

Options

Anyone know if this a real concern alone? All my other blood work is pretty normal. But my lymphocytes # and % are low. I have not been sick, no medications, no treatment since July 2018.

I am trying to google…but not getting more other than an understand of what they are. lol In the process of multiple tests including a CT Monday checking to see if it is back.

Thoughts?

I have had low white blood cell count since chemo. Occasionally it is in normal range. But usually only goes up to normal when I am sick (a cold etc) and the white cells are attacking the virus. So my post chemo new normal is low. Chemo completed 4 1/2 years ago.

My lymphocytes are chronically low. Nobody has ever said anything about it so I assume in the absence of anything else it doesn't raise huge red flags. Or at least not for my doctors. Mine aren't hugely out of range, so that may be why they aren't concerned. Hoping everything comes back clear for you.

My lymphocytes ran high for several years prior to my bc diagnosis. At one point, I was sent to a hematologist for further investigation. He explained that it is the absolute lymphocyte count that matters, not just the overall count or percentage, and that as long as the absolute count is within range, there is less concern. (He did order other tests just to be sure, and everything came back fine.) I can't remember how the absolute lymphocyte count is determined, but you can probably Google and find the formula you use.

I recently had my first blood count done since completing radiation, and now my lymphocyte count is at the very low end of normal. I remember my doctor saying that blood work can come back very different after radiation, and he wasn't concerned at all about the drastic drop in numbers and said that radiation can definitely be a cause of low lymphocyte counts. He was, however, concerned about the newly elevated LDL thanks to anastrazole......but that's a topic for a different thread.

Not sure how long the wbc count remains affected by radiation, but hopefully that is all it is for you. I've come to strongly dislike the expression "radiation, the gift that keeps on giving," but I'm certainly finding it to be true!

Hoping your CT goes well and that you get good results. Hugs!
