First mammo one year after diagnosis
Hi! Last year around this time I was diagnosed and tomorrow I go for my one year mammogram and I'm not sure what to expect? Been pretty nervous the past month or so for obvious reasons, this is a stressful time. I don't feel anything in my breast but I'm still very anxious. My husband is traveling so one of my girlfriends is coming with me so I'm wont be alone. I get the mammo first then I see my doc after. Will I get my results that day? Please share experiences, Thanks

Hi, I went for my 6 month, after radiation, mammogram last August. I was very nervous. The Tech was wonderful and gentle. She told me I would be told the results before I left. When I was told it was negative I cried. When I got to my car and called my husband I cried. Good luck to you.

I had my one-year mammo last May. I was mildly nervous that it would hurt a bit, but it really didn't. The only difference was having to hang around for results, which didn't take too long. Then I had my BS appointment, which was also very routine. I think of mammograms and scans as routine maintenance, not something to stress about.

Well, I almost fall apart once a year in November’s 25 when I get my annual mammogram. Same date each year. I believe I had a bit of PTSD as I have unbearable anxiety entering the same lab. I handle most things very well otherwise. I build in supports, let the lab know my issue and my dr. For five mammograms since dx, I have received kid glove service. Not only does the lab give me results before leaving, but my dr has my results on some sort of alert so that her office replies also within an hour. I cannot take anyone with me, just my personal preference, but I purchase a trashy magazine like People to distract me. My husband is waiting at home holding his breath as is my adult son. I have so much reinforcement in place. But still, to be honest, the anxiety just prior gets so bad I dream about driving into the horizon and not dealing with this at all. Do whatever helps and works. My advice, let the staff know. I so hope your first post dx experience is as positive as possible.

I had my first mammogram 5 months after lumpectomy and two months after radiation. It was considered a baseline mammo. You can imagine how damaged my breast was at that time. My birad score was a little elevated which they said was normal --- it was because of all the scar tissue and unhealed damage in the breast. The imagining did not hurt.

Toyamjj, good luck with your scans. I have my first round at the end of the month. I'll have mammogram in the morning and a whole breast ultrasound in the afternoon. This week I also managed to have a chest Xray and a brain CT with a trip to the emergency room. I fell and knocked myself out! Woohooo, who doesn't like extra tests?!?
