My hard and complicated recovery

when I had my double mastectomy in February 4 weeks later I went to see a physical therapy because my surgeon wanted me to learn about Lymphedema. This would be the worse thing I could have done. The physical therapy put her hands on my breast and manipulate them. Doing so she broke my inside pockets that my plastic surgeon made for the implants.

I have been in pain ever since. I needed surgery to fix my pocket and now I have to have a second sur to fix again the pockets.

This has been such a hard road but I wanted to share to let all of you not let anyone touch your breast! I truest this physical therapy lady knew what she was doing! But in fact has cause me more pain and two more surgeries. So Unnecessary!

cancer is a hard journey and no one has the right to make it even harder for you!

Via: Sorry for your troubles. I agree - I would never go back and have a standard massage from anyone who is not medically trained & familiar with cancer. Two things to note -

Different types of implants and different docs have different requirements. I have anatomical implants and was told not to massage. Many people with round implants were told they should massage. But I assume that would be gentle self-massage.

I spent quite a bit of time with two different LE therapists. I made sure both were LE certified and connected to a hospital or medical center. Neither tried to move or manipulate my implants. LE massage is the lightest of touches, barely grazing the skin to stimulate the lymph movement.

sadly this physical therapy was in a hospital and she supposed to be an expert in Breast cancer. That is why this is all so heartbreaking because I went to someone that supposed to know what she was doing.

Like you said let no one touch your breast at all!!!
