edited December 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

Hi all! Trying not to be overly concerned - but you know how that goes.... I had my first mammogram in a few years last Friday. I got notification from primary doc's website that new results were posted. It says that they need prior scans to compare it to - I knew this and the tech said that since I had it done somewhere else it could take a little bit. I was able to go on and look at the images though - very cool. Except for the fact that it says there are 2 areas of calcifications & 1 mass. I know these are just things that they need to compare, but I don't remember anything being on my previous scans. So, like I said, trying to just get it out & not obsess about it - especially since it is the "holiday season" which makes everything take even longer.

Little bit of history on me, 49, menopause over a year, lupus, blah, blah. ;) My grandmother had breast cancer, sis had ovarian cancer. My grandmother's sisters both had some form of "female" cancer, but no one is left that knows what.

If you made it through all that - thank you for reading!

Good morning, Red. We've all been where you are so I'm sorry you're going through this stress over the holidays. But odds are that it's nothing, so hang onto that while you wait. Best wishes.

Thank you Georgia. Praying that I get some news this week. Even if it's just a "we need you to come back in" would be nice right about now. Each day that passes without hearing anything is nerve wracking.

Red, so hoping all of this turns out well for you. Given all the “female” cancer in your family, have you considered genetic testing for gene mutations? This could provide information that could be very helpful to you going forward. Again, I hope all turns out well for you!

Hi Red, so sorry you are waiting. Perhaps if you don't hear anything the next few days, give them a call. Yogatyme is right, BRCA might be a good idea. Sending you big hugs, you are not alone!

I got a letter in the mail today saying that it could up to 4 weeks to get the previous scans?!?! The tech told me they usually get them really quick, but with the holidays it may take a little longer. Now they're saying up to 4 wks??? I will call them Thursday if nothing has been updated.

My obgyn and I did discuss having testing done. Unfortunately my insurance will not cover it. SMH At the time we talked about it, I wasn't working. I do plan on scheduling my yearly after New Year's and will have it done then. I've already decided that if I do have the gene then they're getting cut off. I'm not willing to risk it.

Thank you for the support ladies! I'll keep you updated!

Red...so sorry you have the long wait over the Holidays!

I had the Genetic Testing done for 62 Gene Mutations because my Cancer is a recurrence and I have a history of colon cancer and breast cancer. It came back with only one Unusual Variation on one Gene.

But that made my eligible for the full 89 Gene Panel. Nothing else showed up. There is absolutely no know Genetic reason for my cancer. For either occurrence. But maybe that means lesser chance of me having more cancer somewhere else.

There is Genome Testing for some breast tumors that will allow them to “target” the particular tumor genes by the way proteins attach. (And that’s the full extent of any understanding I have about that!). ;)

There are guidelines that would require your insurance to pay for the Tests. The American Cancer Society can give you more details.

    Wishing you good Test Results
