Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I am having an ultrasound done today and I'm not sure what to expect. Would they do a biopsy today if they think that one is needed. Thank you!

    Mamenda3,

I have had two ultrasounds that required biopsy. I went into the room. Undress from waist up. They put a bolster behind me. Positioned me on side with arm over head. Technician put gel on me then applied ultrasound wand. Looked around a bunch. Took lots of images. Both times they would speak with me and answer questions. Then radiologist came in and repeated.

First time, I was due to fly out of town the next day, so they moved heaven and earth to get my biopsy done same day. It requires the approval from referring physician and insurance authorization. They were able to do the breast biopsy same day.

Second time was for a lymph node. I had the biopsy about one week later.

Good luck! Fingers crossed for you that all is benign!

I was taken immediately from mammo to ultrasound to biopsy in the span of about an hour. That was obviously not a good sign. I think it will depend on your insurance and what your primary has authorized in addition to the availability of the radiologist at your center or hospital. I was at a specialized breast/women's care center if the hospital. They moved quick.

Thank you Legomaster225. Having more information helps a lot! I'm 22 and haven't been through something like this before.

Thank you SimoneRC! I have had four people on my mom's side within three generations with breast cancer, so I have been very worries since I found my lump. Thank you again.
