Losing hair with Hormonal Therapy
I have been taking tamoxifen for almost a year now. But lately noticed lots of hair falling out. Please share your experience. Thank

Yes, hair loss is a known and common side effect of Tamoxifen. Official term is alopecia and varies in amount of loss. I am taking Biotin which I think has helped slow the loss.

I have long hair and had quite a bit of loss of hair because of Tamoxifen. I used a "thickening" shampoo to make what I had plump it and it helped me a lot. I used it the whole time I was on hormonal therapy. Pantene makes one that is not too expensive and they used to donate money to breast cancer research from every bottle as well.

What was the name of the shampoo

I also lose hair from tamoxifen. It sheds, kind of like when you're post-partum. It's evident in the vacuum cleaner, but my head still looks ok so far. I don't have any advice though. The biotin is a good idea, I might try that.

My hair had been thinning ever since I had a thorough hysterectomy in 2008, and it had gotten progressively worse - it looked like I'd drowned a gerbil and got it stuck in the sink trap when I washed my hair, usually every day or two. I started taking biotin in mid-2018 after I joined this site. I only lose a small amount of hair now when I wash it, and even my not-so-observant hubby mentioned a few months ago that my hair looked thicker. I started Tamoxifen at the beginning of this year and it didn't make any difference. The only downside to biotin is that my nails grow so fast I can't keep up the upkeep!

Hi. Was on tamoxifen for 1.5 yrs and started Aromasin in Jan. a few months after ovary removal. I noticed hair loss very soon after starting tamoxifen. It has progressively gotten worse. I used 5% rogaine with no results. Then finally was prescribed minoxidil 10% by a derm. I did that religiously for 6 months with minimal results. I’m completely desperate at this point. If I keep losing hair at this rate I will need to wear a wig. I’m on meds minimum of 10yrs.
Saw another dermatologist yest and she recommended oral minoxidil. I’m unsure if I should try it because it can cause hair growth in other places and I’m already dealing with facial hair etc from being in menopause. Has anyone had experience with this? -
Hair loss and thinning have been driving me crazy enough I have been thinking about shaving completely.
