Before Mastectomy Surgery

I have breast cancer in my left breast. I have to have breast removed but I am also having my right breast removed. I will be having reconstructive surgery but my question is will i have the reconstructive surgery at the same time as my mastectomy surgery or will I have to go back???

Thisis a good question for your surgeon. The breast surgeon and plastic surgeon may be able to coordinate surgery for the same date but it really depends on several factors.

I would suggest writing down this question and any other you might have and take to your appointment to discuss. Best wishes.

Of course the breast surgeon is the best person to ask. As to my personal experience, I was told it was best to have it done at the same time. It was a long surgery but both surgeons worked their schedules to both be there at the same time. Everyone persons case is different though, as well as surgical preferences by the docs.

You need to meet with both a breast surgeon and a plastic surgeon. As April says, they work together. It's something you should explore right away so you can meet them all. You don't give specifics about your cancer. That might make a difference too - for example if you need radiation.
