Hi I'm 38 & have never breastfed and I have been having trouble outta my left nipple two weeks now. It started off as just a little pain Wednesday before last and by Friday it was red around the areola area and my nipple started to swell. By Sunday its was more red around the areola area and my nipple was huge. By breast was warm and the pain was unbearable. Tuesday I went to the doctor and she said she had never seen anything like it before so she called in her boss and he said the same thing. I was given a antibiotic shot & a pain shot. She prescribed me some antibiotics oral & a cream. I took the oral antibiotics Tuesday but waited until Wednesday to use the cream. I applied the cream on Wednesday morning by Wednesday evening the tip of my nipple was black. Wednesday night pus started dripping from my nipple and the shooting pain went away. Friday it looked like my nipple was peeling by Saturday my nipple had basically deteriorated and my areola area looked like it was peeling. Sunday I went to the emergency room and was given a bag of antibiotic and received a ultrasound and she said she didn't see a abscess and there was no infection in my blood and I was sent home with instructions to stop using the cream but it keep using the oral antibiotics. My left nipple is now gone. My doctor sent me to the breast cancer center and a mammogram and ultrasound was performed. I was told again that there wasn't a abscess but it was badly inflamed. In the course of two weeks & 4 different antibiotics including IV antibiotics nothing is working. I have a upcoming appointment with the breast surgeon Monday. Nobody is telling me but on my paper work I keep seeing Mastitis. No one thought to even take a culture of the infected area. My mammogram and ultrasound says that the breast tissue is heterogeneously dense which may obscure masses. There is marked skin thickening of the nipple areola complex. On the MLO view there yea potential asymmetry seen at the posterior nipple line posterior depth. In the subareolar aspect there is an area of hypoechogenicity which could reflect fluid however encapsulated. There is marked increased blood flow. The 4:00 axis. 2 cm from the nipple there is a small cyst that measures 6×4×7 mm in size. The axilla was evaluated and there are multiple abnormal lymph nodes. Left breast findings conclude with severe mastitis involving the nipple areolar complex. There is marked vascularity posterior to the nipple with no definite drainage fluid collection. An asymmetry was seen mammographically the posterior nipple line. It's crazy to read this because no one has come outta there mouthed to say that its mastitis. My doctor suggested inflammatory cancer. I just want know what's wrong with me.
