Swollen armpit

2 nights ago my armpit where lymph nodes were removed began hurting and then I woke up yesterday w low grade fever and flu like aches. It is a bit better today, no fever or aches and armpit not as swollen. I am hoping this is just a response from minor viral infection, but wondering if I should check in w my bc NP. I have a scheduled appt on Dec 17 and feel like asking for an earlier appt is overkill as I know that if it is related to bc, another week or so will not make much difference. Has anyone else had this happen

Yoga - this could well be cellulitis. Don't wait. Get to the doctor or an urgent care clinic today. Once you have LE issues, it's really dangerous to put off treatment & antibiotics.

Were you able to get a doc appointment?

MinusTwo, yes, went to urgent care bc we are at our mountain house and not near my cancer center or PCP. The swelling had resolved quite a bit and the doc thought I probably did pick up virus from BIL. Told me to watch it closely and if swelling starts again to call my NP at cancer center. He said it did not look like cellulitis. What a relief!! Also talked to my sister today and she had the same sx w/o armpit swelling. She also got sick on Tues evening, so despite BIL being very mindful and isolating himself I think he “shared” with us.

Hooray if that's all it is. I would have probably asked for prophylactic antibiotics - even though I'm not a big fan of over using those. Be sure to keep a sharp eye out. Christmas in the hospital would NOT be fun.

Both DH & I are keeping microscopic vision on it. Continues to seem to get better...both when I feel it with my hand and when my arm is at rest. We go home on Sat and if any issue can be seen there. Thanks for your help and for checking back

MinusTwo, wanted to give you an update. My armpit is back to normal this morning. Yay!! Relieved to say the least. I’m hoping this happened bc I’m not that far out from surgery and not something I’m going to have to be prepared for every time I get sick

Yoga - more good news. If you haven't been evaluated by a trained, certified LE therapist, you might make an appointment after Christmas. This is a great site was created with input from BCO members and has some good information. https://www.stepup-speakout.org/

Since I have been diagnosed with truncal & breast lymphadema, my doc has give me a prescription for antibiotics to carry just in case. I've never had to use them, but it's a comfort having them with me - particularly when I'm not in a big city with a convenient & knowledgeable ER.

MinusTwo, thanks for the info. I am seeing bc NP in about 10 days. This information will help me with the discussion with her. Again, thanks so much!!
