Healing from core needle biopsy

Hello,

I recently got a core needle biopsy that thankfully came back benign but I had a question about healing from it.

This was about a month ago and the site around the needle hole is still red and feels like there is a good size lump under it. My husband thinks it is just healing from the biopsy but I am scared it is something more. Unfortunately when you use Dr Google the only thing that comes up is Inflammatory breast cancer.

So I guess my question is does it usually take awhile to heal from a core needle biopsy?

Thank you.

I think it is just healing. The device makes a pretty big puncture. No, it does not sound like IBC.

It took a long time for me. Sorry, can't remember exactly how long but I found it way more traumatic than the excisional biopsy that I had afterwards. I found it to be a rough procedure. Others may disagree, but between the squeezing and the needle and the "sampling" its not gentle. Maybe you have a seroma. I did, but not sure if it was from the stereotactic (needle) or surgical biopsy.

You can look up additional info, but they generally say to wait to see if it resolves on it's own in a few months. Otherwise, you may need to have it drained. I understand it's a pretty painless procedure. Good luck and congrats that the results are benign!

I hope you've used ice on it. I was sent home from my biopsy with a small round disc-shaped ice pack that could slip right into my bra, and I used it for 20 minutes every hour and then as often as possible.

I had a core biopsy in early July and it was still like you are describing when I had surgery in mid Aug. So, I agree with others, it’s likely just healing. Great news on the biopsy results!! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» It’s not a club you want to join.

Thank you everyone for the responses. It is so hard to be worried and not know what is normal or not.

I called the doctor and they said well, we can see you in three weeks. So crazy.

My husband told me today it looked less red and the bump seemed smaller. It is just crazy it is taking so long to heal.
