Rude comments made by others at the gym about modifying exercise

This is so utterly ridiculous. Anyone who would be snarky about someone else’s workout/ability is so insecure about themselves and it plays out in competition. I might just say something like “cancer has tried to kick my ass but I’m going to kick it’s ass. I hope you never have to compete with it.” I’m not a fan of deliberately saying mean spirited things but there are people who need to be embarrassed by their rudeness. One comment like this might mak them think twice in the future. I attended a yoga class for about 20 yrs and the instructor had to frequently remind members that yoga is not a competitive sport. In fairness, we live in a very competitive society and it spills into most areas of life.....best house, fastest car, designer clothes, best grades, etc. My husbands business partner recently told me about her mother spending $10,000 on 2 Louis Vuitton purses b/c of the status she perceives it gives her. How sad.

NO ONE should worry about what happened to me happening to them. I was really just venting, I didn't mean to frighten anyone.I have been going to gyms, yoga etc for almost 30 years and it has never happened before. I live in a small town, people tend to get in each others business more than they should. Even before BC I have a bulging disc and there are some things I had to modify in classes- I just gave the instructor a heads up, no problem and no one said anything.
And if someone makes a rude comment DON'T do what I did and stand there with your mouth hanging open. Talk up to them or the instructor/gym owner. I hate to think that these same women might make a comment to someone who is nervous to try a gym or class for the first time and might decide not to come back. ever again.
Yogatyme, what you are saying is unfortunately true but with fitness it is all about hard work. Anyone can put in the work. Someone who complained that I am lifting less weight than her clearly doesn't get that and she's just cheating herself, right?

blah - Do be careful about LE. The risk is forever even if only one sentinel node is removed. There are a number of good threads you can search on BCO. Also this link below that was created with input from BCO members is a wealth of information.
You can build up your arms, but do it very slowly adding only a little weight over a good amount of time. As for Yoga, there are a lot of poses I no longer do so I've switched to chair yoga.
Oops - forgot to add the link.
