Right now I am scheduled for a BMX and at the same time will have my port placed.

Has anyone else done that? Would love to hear how it went.

Thanks!

I didn’t get mine that way, but sounds like a great plan. One less procedure, copay, recovery. Any pain from either all at once.

I did, it went great. I was already on painkillers for the bmx and didn't notice any port pain. Saved an extra surgery. My mom had her port done as a standalone, 1/2 day in hospital and she said it hurt for a week or so.

Yes, had mine done that way and my very experienced surgeon actually installed it while he had the left side mastectomy flap cleared out so I had no additional incision lines. He used a very small port, subclavian - so just below my throat at the clavicle - it never showed and I was actually reluctant to remove it because doing so would cause a visible scar. I kept it for six years, and had it removed by my plastic surgeon (reconstructive) and she did a great job making the incision very small and placing it in another scar from a skin cancer removal. It was done during a fat grafting procedure so I was not awake - which was great! Remind your oncology nurses when you start chemo that it has been there since your BMX - they may need to flush it first, depending on time between surgery and first chemo, to make sure it is working smoothly.

I had Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, then I had lumpectomy and the port removed at the same time.
