I saw my medical oncologist and had my one year post Dx mammogram on my remaining breast. My doctors want to see me every 3-4 month for first five years. I find it totally unnecessary. Nothing happens at the visits in fact I am being passed off to a NP which is aggravating. I have nothing against NP’s but I pay a co-pay for a specialist, not a nurse! There is no transparency at the cancer hospital I go to, my appointment is listed for the doctor, but I end up seeing an NP. I trust myself more than I trust the NP!

I know recurrences happen, but how many women who had a mastectomy really get recurrences within five years after a stage one breast cancer? I can’t imagine many. I usually make my next appointment when I check out after my appointment but today I told them I had to check my schedule first. Not sure when I will go back but definitely not for at least six month-year.

I had Stage one both times, same breast almost 16 years apart. First time IDC, second ILC., thus the mastectomy

I am 15 months out, stage 1 also. I only see my MO every 6 months, now that I'm past the first year. However, I had lumpectomy/rads. I'm on letrozole, so I figure the appointments are more about the blocker than anything else. Hopefully, not many stage 1 recurrences at all!

Mavricks - first to answer your question. I had a bilateral mastectomy for DCIS - so downstage from you. In exactly two years I had a local recurrence to a lymph node that had turned to IDC.

Second - it would be better if you pick one thread - or start just one thread - and keep posting all your issues together. I've responded on several of your threads like the NP issue and I just posted on your Bills threads. W/O any specs it's very difficult to keep track of where you are in your treatment arc and what you've had done to date and with so many threads it hard follow a cohesive story.

Minus two, good point. I thought threads were supposed to stay on or close to topic, thus the different threads. Actually I’m out of questions for the moment, so I will stick to reading and commenting without starting anything new.

Hope you don't discover a recurrence. Do you know you have to select "make public" in 'my profile' for us to see your spec?
