Awful hot/cold flashes after mastectomy.

Has this happened to anyone else after a bmx? I am 59 and have had hot flashes for several years after menopause, but they were decreasing. Well, they're back and back in a BIG way! I am not taking any anti hormonal drugs, so can't blame them on these. I did read a study that mentioned this phenomenon. Anyone?

The days and weeks after my mastectomy I would wake up SOAKED in sweat. I’m only 35, so definitely not menopausal but could be that your body is working hard to heal. It went away after a couple of weeks but it was definitely alarming.

I am two weeks out of BMX , soaking wet at night since then. I am 41, do not take any medications and haven't had that problem before.

PS told me that a lot of women are having menopausal symptoms after undergoing mastectomy, nothing to worry about.

I did feel that feeling especially after driving water. It stayed about a month and eventually it went away. No worries. But check with your surgeon.

Hi Everyone, I'm so glad someone started this thread.

I still have not started Tamoxifen. Its been a year since I've finished Herceptin/Chemo. My Hot Flashes are so horrific so violent they are controlling my life.. I had a hysterectomy over 30 years ago. Took Estrace pills to combat the hot flashes until DX - stopped Estrace immediately- that's when Hot Flashes began. (Hot Flashes began June of 2017 and have gotten worse)

I have been given : Paxil/Effexor/Gabapentin, Oxybutinin & Clonidine -which have not worked.

I've been approved with my Health Ins for SGB injections (stellate ganglion block) (Google Mayo Clinic) its to reduce hot flashes - the only DR that is qualified in my area is too far away. My OBGYN suggested BELLADONNA but it sounds pretty scary. (via Amazon.com)

I have tried all the usual suspects : layers, keep a/c on 65, ceiling fans, floor fans, personal fans, Ice packs, cooling clothes. I was counting on the cool weather to help. NOT! It was 19 degrees and I had my windows open. Still I was soaked to the bone.

I'm so desperate that I'm considering taking Estrace Pills again. Any Suggestions?

I definitely couldn’t regulate my temperature for a few weeks after the BMX! I just commented on that yesterday. I’m six days out from a hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) and I’m much more comfortable temperature-wise.

rlj...Well, that sounds perfectly miserable. Hope that someone on here can give you some ideas on things that might help.

PiXi...Awesome that you're more comfy temperature wise. Heal quickly!
