Excisional Biopsy last Monday...

Well, I had an excisional biopsy last Monday because a papilloma was confirmed by core needle biopsy. Dilated ducts seen adjacent duct with the papilloma. They said I had a mass measuring 10mm 3cm from my nipple. I know that it was cystic with solid components per the reports. It was seen on mammogram and ultrasound. The surgeon was also concerned about a hyperpigmented area on my nipple and she took a biopsy of that during surgery. I'm expecting the final pathology report to be in this week and she said that she was going to call me with the results (even though she will be on vacation) as she doesn't want me to have to wait through the weekend to get the results.

I'm a little nervous because prior to surgery, I asked if she could just take a sample of the area on my nipple and send it to path to get a preliminary report...and if it was something that she could just take care of it at the same time. I expressed that I didn't want to have to do this all over again. The surgeons reply was, "we have to find out what this is first because if you need your nipple and areola removed you'll want plastics involved too" DANG!!

Of course, I've turned to Dr Google. Fearful of Paget's disease as other ductal cancers of the breast are typically found with it...

I was surprised with the amount of tissue she took (golf ball size), and the length of the incision! But, if it is something else (other than a papilloma) I'd rather her take more than not enough...

I'm just venting, trying hard to stay busy, fearful of what this all could possibly mean, hoping for the best but trying to prepare for the worst.

How does everyone stay optimistic while waiting for results? What are you doing to keep your mind off of everything while waiting for your results? I feel like I can't talk to my family about it anymore as they are like, "it's just a papilloma" like it's no big deal....

    I have my excisional biopsy on 11/15. Right now I’m focusing on stuff with my kids and their school. Sometimes the anxiety creeps in, but it’s been getting better than it was last week. I’m sure it will be back on the 13th/14th.

    I hope you get a call with some great news! I’ve got my fingers crossed my Fibroadenoma doesn’t end up being a phyllodes.

    I hope your excisional biopsy goes well too! My children are young adults so my baby is a 9 month old golden retriever, lol. She definitely keeps me active and busy :) Distraction is good, in my free time I'm trying to start little organizational projects around the house. Doesn't sound like fun but in some way it's helping...

    I'll definitely post with my news when I get the "call" this week. I'd love to hear how everything turns out for you too, fingers crossed! Take care!

    I’ll definitely let you know. Glad you’re staying busy while you wait and hopefully enjoying your organizing. It’s always nice to me when I can declutter and have a tidy space.

    50 years old. Been getting mammos every 1-2 years since 40.

    Last week's showed "asymmetry in left breast compared to prior imaging". A spot compression mammo (tomosynthesis) was ordered. Radiologist read on-site and ordered a sonogram. Sonogram was done and categorized as a BI-RADS 4. I didn't ask if it was a BI-RADS 4a, 4b, or 4c. They have now ordered a Vacuum assisted breast biopsy (VABB) and I am freaking out! They didn't see a clearly-defined mass, per se, but they said that the breast tissue had changed and become more dense and looked different than previous mammos and sonograms.

    I am so fearful and confused. Anyone had something like this happen? . . . . . . what happened next? . . . . . and what were the results? Any suggestions? Thank you!

    that sounds similar to my situation. I was scheduled for implants and when I went for my preop, dr said he wanted to see a recent mammo which I hadn’t done in over 5 years. I know, 48, with dense breasts and a mom w stage 4 BC at age 40, I should know better. Anyway, two mammos a needle and excisional biopsy later, and now I’m waiting for results. The radiology and path were discordant, so I’m remaining positive that it really is just ADH. How did yours turnnout
