Medicare and needing a lift on non cancer breast

Options

I am a 19 year survivor and from my understanding I can have a breast reduction again or a lift to the non cancer breast to make them both match and to be able to have clothes fit properly again.

My problem is I am retired now and on Medicare.

Will they pay for a lift reduction? How do you find a surgeon who will except Medicare? I live in Dallas

Woodp - if you are on traditional Medicare, you should have no trouble finding a surgeon. Medicare Advantage may be another issue. I'd call your Medicare coverage company - but I'd use the word "revision". It's my understanding once you've had breast cancer surgery, you can always get a revision covered. However I don't know about the other breast if it was never treated.

Wood, thanks for posting this. I'm 10 years out from a lumpectomy and didn't have any other breast surgery as I couldn't stand the thought of another surgery. I'm on medicare also. I would like to have the other breast reduced and also wonder if medicare will cover. I have supplemental medicare also. My understanding is that the supplemental will almost automatically cover what medicare would.

I had my first recon with BC PPO. Had a revision on my non cancer side that resulted in changing an implant for symmetry reasons on regular Medicare no problem. I had the same fear. As long as the ps codes it with a post bc dx and not cosmetic it'll be fine. There's no time limit thanks to president bill Clinton.

I had a lift reduction at the same time as my tissue expander was replaced with the implant. Just before, I balked, but everything was set at that time. Now, I am pleased, and Medicare/Medicaid paid for it all.
