I went for a consultation appointment today and the doctor wants to do a pet scan before starting radiation. I had a petscan in March which was clear except for breast and nodes. I had surgery in April and started 16 rounds of chemo which I have completed. Did anyone else have a petscan before beginning radiation. I have no symptoms and she says it is just a check. Scanziety to the max here.

    Hi mpv,

I had bone and ct scans after finishing chemo and mastectomy, kind of a follow-up to see if anything had changed (I had a couple nodules that they were keeping an eye on, in my lungs and on my thyroid--nothing came of them). I felt like my MO wanted to see if they had changed after chemo, which might indicate that they were or were not cancer. Seems like they just want a second baseline before the next phase of treatment.

thank you... I am so freaked out by the pet scan although I have done well and have no symptoms. I have to wait until next Thursday for the scan which seems like forever.

I had a PET scan prior to chemo and a PET scan after chemo to see what chemo did. After radiation, I had another PET scan because the previous scans had shown uptake in the left femoral neck (hip). I then had an MRI on my hip. It showed nothing. MO decided that there was nothing wrong with my hip. Your MO may just be eliminating the possibility of mets (again). Frankly, PET scans are peaceful compared to MRIs. I never minded them, but I'm one of those people who "wants to know" if anything is wrong. ((Hugs))
