Accuracy of mammograms

I have "extremely dense breasts" based on past mammograms. I've read so much about regular mammograms missing breast cancer in dense breasts and how finding a tumor is like "looking for a snowflake in a snow storm". This sounds really discouraging. Should I be requesting an ultrasound with my annual mammogram? I'm 42 with no family history of B/C but I'm worried a ammogram alone is ponteitally going to miss somehting.
