Probable lung mets
I'm so stunned, do not know how to deal with this at all. Although I had a local recurrence 3 years ago I think I had my head in the sand as to the possibility of mets.
Was having pain/tenderness in my left lower ribs and left shoulder. Wanted a bone scan. GP initially dismissed my symptoms - shoulder (muscular, due to potentially babying the left side) and ribs/abdomen - who knows? (pulled muscle? side effect of Zolodex injections) to the other pain. Went back two months later his plan was rib x-ray first then bone scan.
The x-ray showed nothing that would explain my symptoms, but incidentally a 2 cm spot on my left lung. So he then ordered a CT scan.
CT scan showed 4 spots on my lungs (1-2cm) on both sides as well as a spot on a rib on my right side.
Have an appt with oncologist in 3 weeks. Seems like forever. They are supposed to do a CT-guided lung biopsy on the most accessible nodule this week. I guess this will confirm breast mets vs. primary lung (though unlikely with the bone spot as well), or not cancer (unlikely but they said it could still be an option. I am voting Sarcoidosis, apparently House MD's fav diagnosis) As well as redoing the hormone markers as the onco said on phone hormone therapy would likely be first approach. (did not get into well the hormone therapy has failed me thus far and I thought the last tumor though moderately ER-positive on staining was almost negative on the OncotypeDX test) I think he is also ordering a bone scan.
The onco said they would just treat it as breast mets if nothing easy to biopsy but since the one is accessible they will do biopsy first.
I'm only 45 and I just feeling the tick-tock-timer of life going and its driving me insane. Yes I've done far too much googling and it seems 2 years is median l.e. with treatment for MBC to lungs, and 5 years (still far too little IMO) would be exceedingly rare.
Trying to live in the moment but it only works if I have a distraction (hike in the mountains worked well) but anytime I'm sitting idle my brain just goes beserk.
Don't have a strong support network but am married with supportive husband.
