Liver Spot

Options

Hi!

I was diagnosed in May of this year (3cm, grade 3, ER+). A spot was found on my liver with a staging CT at this time, but it was too small to determine what it was. Onc said not to worry as it was probably a cyst.

I had a second opinion around this time to decide what type of treatment to do. At the appointment, the oncologist said not to worry about the liver spot as well, but he said, “if we see that it is gone on a scan after chemo, we'll need to wonder why it disappeared." I have just one more infusion, and had a abdomen CT scan last week because of a zoladex injection gone wrong.. The liver spot was not mentioned in the report.

How long do cysts last in the liver? Is there a good chance it can just disappear in five months? I guess either way, it's gone and that's probably a good thing, but is this worth mentioning to my oncologist (not the oncologist that made the comment about it)?

Anyone had something similar? THANKS

For sure it is worth discussing with your oncologist. The oncologist may have more insight that can hopefully set your mind at ease. As mentioned, it could have been benign. Perhaps your oncologist will have some ideas on surveillance as time goes on to make sure it doesn't reoccur.

I had a similar scenario. I was not told initially about a spot on my liver which was found on original ct scan. I had a copy of all my scans and was looking at the report when I saw liver spot. I asked my oncologist about it and he said it’s probably a cyst. Fine. Post chemo I had another ct, cyst now gone. Was it a met? Oncologist said no but in my heart/head I’m not sure. Actually I am sure it was but I’m giving my body the benefit of the doubt.

So sorry I can’t be more help...

    Similar thing happened to me.

Initial Pet scan showed a teeny tiny hotspot on my liver. They couldn't say what it was just from that, and the ct part of the pet didn't even register the spot. They then set me up with a liver MRI and it was there , at 5mm . It got more confusing because it had characteristics of it being a met, and characteristics that would say not a met. They couldn't biopsy it due to size and location , so they said chemo was the "litmus test" If it responded to chemo, as in got smaller, they said they would determine it was a met. The said if it got bigger, then it was a met. Their criteria for it to be declared something else, was that it had to be the same size and same appearance on the MRI after 3 rounds. So after my 3rd round I went to my MRI , and was told it was even more conspicous as it was the same size, but seemed more faded in the middle .

Pet was ordered and it did not light up at all that time. my breast was also clear after 3 rounds. and thus they said it was a met based on the fact it responded to treatment like my breast did . I'm still not 100 % convinced of what it was so I just focus on the fact that whatever it was , is gone and that's really what matters .

I had a liver lesion aswell which was too small to get it biopsied. It could be seen on an ultrasound a month before my brain met dx and the radiologist determined it to be a cyst or hemangioma. On an Abdomen CT with contrast a month after it still could be seen as a 10mm lesion. 3 months into THP it shrank half in size after another 4 months it was completely gone and never returned. I stopped thinking about this too much, it's not changing the consequences or therapy. Good luck to you xx
