Post Ductal excision, new nipple discharge
I had a ductal excision a few weeks ago due to clear discharge in the 2-3 o'clock position of my right breast. All went well and was healing well. 1 week after the surgery I noticed a small amount of dark red blood coming from a different duct at 7oclock that was spontaneous, but also expressible. I went for my followup at 2 weeks and my surgeon said she didn't want to panic yet, that it was most likely due to a seroma and we would wait a couple months to see if it went away. Now, I had just the night before had the sudden death of a close family member and wasn't thinking quite clearly at my appointment, therefore I didn't question anything. Today, was the first day since the funeral that I thought to look up seroma. From everything I've read, it usually contains yellowish fluid, but not blood cells. If that's the case how could that be causing dark red blood to come out of that duct? Has anyone else had blood come from a new duct post ductal excision?
Thank you everyone

I had a situation that is not exactly the same, but somewhat similar. I had bloody nipple discharge from a duct near the 7-8 oclock position on my right nipple for around 5 months. After a concerning MRI they did a "fan biopsy", basically they took 6 core samples, somewhat randomly all from the retroareolar area, aiming for different ducts. For about 3 weeks after the biopsy I had bright red bloody discharge from two different ducts on my nipple, and this discharge was a lot thinner than before. I called and talked to the radiologist who did the biopsy and was told as that area is healing it was not uncommon for the ducts to bleed quite a bit. They told me that area tends to be a bit more painful and bleeds easier than other locations in the breast. After the 3 weeks the bloody discharge I had before the biopsy returned, but was now coming out of a different duct than before.
I hope that at least helps at least a little.
I was wondering how the ductal excision went for you? Were you able to engage in most normal daily activities afterward? I now have a new surgeon and am scheduled for a ductal excision, and excisional biopsy on October 3rd. They are waiting to get another opinion on my imaging to decide exactly how much of a sample they need for the biopsy portion of the surgery. I guess I'm just a bit nervous about the recovery and if there will be any visible changes to my breast, other than the incision of course.

Thank you for your response. I guess my big concern is that I didn't have blood in my discharge before, and this is the opposite side of where my ducts were removed. I can actually feel a small lump just to the side of this duct, that when pressed causes the bloody discharge. That doesn't seem like a seroma which she felt was causing it.
The surgery itself went really well. The only problem I seemed to have was the anesthesia made me sick (that had never happened before with prior surgeries). I was able to return to most daily activities the next days. It just took a few days to feel like the drugs were out of my system completely (just felt sleepy and headaches). As far as appearance, I had some minor swelling and the bruising started after a few days. I'm 3 weeks out now and that is all pretty much gone. The scar is very minimal. I have a feeling it will be almost invisible in a year.

Sorry, I missed your reply until just now....My surgery got pushed back because the imaging center my new surgeon uses wanted to redo the MRI because they were not happy with the with the quality of the one I had earlier this summer. I just had by surgery yesterday and they took some extra tissue samples from an area that is thickened and dimpled. Yesterday I didn't have any blood on my bandage, but this afternoon I noticed some blood had seeped through the bandage over my nipple. It is also really bruised already, luckly the pain is a bit better right now, but it was hurting a lot last night. I'm anxious to be able to remove the bandaging so I can see what it looks like.
Hopefully your issue with the bloody nipple discharge has resolved!
