so my mom has ilc in right breast and they didn’t get clear margins. She ha idc in left and those were clear. Just finished chemo after surgery and has a mastectomy scheduled. The problem is the surgeon will not consider bilateral mastectomy because during chemo my mom has dvt and pe and is now on Xarelto. It has been six months since the surgery and today I asked to have her mri to check on the left breast and they said not not for a year. Please advise when you us follow up imaging after a lumpectomy. Thanks

I didn't have more imaging until a year after surgery...8 months after radiation ended.

My Mammogram was 6 months after I finished radiation. A PE is very dangerous and depending on your Mom's age they might not want to proceed until they feel she is strong enough and that the blood thinner is working. A DVT is usually picked up sooner because of the symptoms, edema, redness, hot to touch. Also, the chemo has so many side effects her labs are probably off and she needs to recover. You could always go for a second opinion. What does your Mom want to do?

My first mammogram after lumpectomy surgery was a year later, 3 months after rads finished.
