Recent mammo requires follow-up pics...scared

Options

Hello Lovey Ladies,

Initial diagnosis 7/2013...now 6 years out and I had mammo last week in remaining breast and received a follow-up call for additional pictures that may lead to ultra sound. Having a bit of a panic about recurrence this morning. I am hoping and praying that it is an anomaly or something benign. Have any of you been called back for a second set of pictures and had a false-positive result or additional testing? Test is schedule for Monday am so I don't have to wait too long but this takes me back to all the initial fear, and worry. I had a few minor scares over the course of the last 6 years that were not recurrence but this is so hard. Trying to calm my nerves and re-frame my brain to get through the weekend. Thanks for listening.

Yes, after initial diagnosis, I’ve twice had mammos/ultrasounds/biopsies with benign findings. Hope yours is benign as well. Good luck!

Me too, twice in 3 years PFC. Both times have been on the left side which is my non BC side. The first time everything was fine. The second time which was just last week, the radiologist described what they were seeing as inhomogeneous breast tissue. She told me it was not cancerous but that they want to keep an eye on it. I am scheduled to go back for another mammogram and ultrasound on the left in 6 months. Like you I was freaking out when I got the recall. I had to wait 3 weeks for the 2nd appointment! It was a very tense 3 weeks with me thinking of all of the possibilities. I guess the good thing is that they seem to follow those who have a BC diagnosis more closely than the general population. Good luck! Hope all goes well on Monday.

Thank you for responding SerenitySTA and bravepoint, it helps to know that you've been through this without getting bad news. I appreciate your information and have been able to talk my self off the ledge so to speak. It is such a relief to be able to speak with people who have been down this path and can offer up some hope and advice along the way!! I will let you know the results.

Hello ~ after 2 sets of additional mammo pictures and one ultra sound the RO was able to confirm that I do not have any cancerous tissue in the breast. Thank goodness!! I have dense breast tissue which creates part of the challenge and had a lift on that breast after DIEP on left breast...RO said lift can/will rearrange breast tissue sometimes that requires a second look.

He explained they use an abundance of caution especially with BC survivors and that out of 20 people who get a call back only 1 will have a recurrence. So for anyone out there with this concern be aware that the second look can be common and is more about doing due diligence for you and your health. That doesn't or didn't lessen the freak-out mode for me but might for someone else.

    Thanks BCO ladies!!
