I think I’ve taken 2-3 days off after my lumpectomies. It’s a pretty minor surgery—many women don’t take any prescription pain meds. I did for a day or two, mostly because why not? 😉

I needed about a week and I think part of it was that I was completely burned out from work and hadn't had a vacation in a year and a half. I was 63 at the time and in good physical condition. It hit me like a train wreck--could have also been partly due to the anesthesia. After a week I was just fine and riding a horse. Sometimes it's hard to say.

I don't handle general anesthesia very well. I took a week, not b/c of the pain but because of the side effects of the general anesthesia. So if you've had surgery before, that will help you figure out what you need.

Ingerp - did you think the SNB with lumpectomy was as easy as the lumpectomy alone? I had just a lumpectomy the first surgery, and agree it was a piece of cake. I was back at work next day. I took no pain meds. Not even tylenol. However, I had SNB with my mastectomy and my under arm pain is pretty intense. I don't know how much is from SNB and how much is mastectomy/DIEP. If it's from SNB, I think I'd need some time off.

I took a week. I felt pretty good, just tired. I got some soft, comfy sports bras to wear tho.

I had a lumpectomy with the SNB. My BS removed 8 lymph nodes. The surgery was on a Friday and I took Monday and Tuesday off from work. It helped that I got time over the weekend. But my job is not really physical so that may also make a difference in how much time to take off

Agree. Depends on type of work. I did work in an office when I did lumpectomy and notes with nodes out as well. I scheduled mine for Friday afternoon (had to not eat or drink of course that day at work) and I went back on Monday. I just sat at a desk though with no lifting at all.

I have a desk job and my surgery was on a Thursday and I took Friday off as well. I also had the weekend to recuperate, but felt fine to go back to work on Monday. I had little to no discomfort and did not need prescription pain meds.
