Subfacial implants?

Has anyone had this done? I'm still deciding and exploring options, and emailed my local PS about prepectoral implants. The office responded that he does subfacial implants.

This is where the implant lies under the facia layer of muscle, rather than completely under the pec muscle. I googled it, and it looks good. Has a longer recovery time than prepec due to muscle involvement, but I guess it helps with rippling. Doesn't interfere with mammograms. Thoughts?

I don't think you have mammograms with implants I think maybe ultrasound or MRIs.

I was right there with you Meow13! There is no way I would want a mammogram with my implants. I can't imagine that can't be good for them or for the alloderm that is sewn in?? I dunno?? I will just stick with the MRI's.

    Hi Meow13!

I had BMX w/implants. No more mammograms for me! Just MRI every few years. I believe women who have had BMX and implants no longer do mammograms. Lumpectomy and implants would certainly continue with mammograms. Maybe others have received different follow up protocols. Would be interested to hear.

Yes, your right when you have a bmx there are no more mammograms. There is no more breast tissue just implants and fat transfers.

Then why is ACS SAYING WOMEN WITH BMX should have mammogram screenings?

I have not been told to have mammogram or ultrasound screening either. Just go to my breast surgeon every six months for breast exam.

I’m hoping some more ladies weigh in here.

    Thanks.

    Hi CBK,

I did not read the ACS piece to say that women with mastectomies and implants should have mammograms. I read it to say that women with breast tissue who also have implants should have mammograms. And the specifics of what that imaging would include because of the implants.

Youare correct Simone. That article refers to women who have augmented breasts and are having mammograms. Even that doesn’t sound very fun.

Thanks Simone and Vege girl to clarify... I jumped the gun thinking I was missing something.

Hope someone can respond to original question I feel like I highjacked the board regarding original inquiry on subfacial implants. I’m interested to hear!

CBK, I made the same conclusion. I forgot people get implants that haven't had mastectomies.

Interesting. I have gone to Myofascial release for my post mastectomy pain for the last year. I have prepect implants and my PT has a theory that there is a bundle of fascia that gobbed up under my pectoral muscle and is wedged by my implant and that there is no way to get to it to smooth it out.

I wonder how much fascia is left on the outside of the pectoral muscle after a Mastectomy. I wonder if the Breast Surgeon scrapes it all off? That would have been a good question to ask my Plastic surgeon when I ask about moving my implants to over the muscle. He originally told me my skin is paper thin and there is nothing there to protect the implant except for the alloderm and that is why there is so much rippling in many that do it. Maybe that is why some women who go directly to Pre Pec implants after a masetcomy have less rippling maybe it is because the surgeon releases the fascia and slides the implant underneath it and then smooths it over.

In all my surgeries I never even knew what fascia was and that is with a physiology background. It wasn't until I had so much pain and chording that I went to a lymphademist trained in Myofascial that found out about fascia. my whole upper torso was glue when she started I thought I had costrochondritis. I have worked for over a year with acupuncture, myofascial release, Myofascial distortion release, Rolfing, and lymphedmia massage. Not sure these implants were worth it.

Is the person on this thread asking about implants after a mastecomy? If so I am not sure if they leave the fascia behind when the do a Mastectomy. If you find out or find a link please send it to me. You are asking good questions about the pros and cons and the deliverable outcomes?

Please post back what you find out I am very very interested about the fascia as it is related to a Dbl Mastectomy and implants.
