Wide Excision?

I've now met with a breast surgeon, who will be doing the wire localization/excisional biopsy next month on what a core needle biopsy showed is a Complex Sclerosing Lesion (after being flagged as an architectural distortion on my screening mammogram and then the followup diagnostic mammogram).

Her appointment notes said that the plan is for a "wide excision." Is that just another name for an excisional biopsy?

She mentioned that about 10% of the time DCIS can be found nearby CSL tissue--if a "wide excision" is something slightly more expansive, is that so that the areas a little removed from the CSL can be looked at as well?

Or did she maybe just misspeak in dictating her notes?

(Sure, I could leave a message to ask HER, but what fun would that be? )
