2 days ago I developed sharp pain in my right breast. The pain wakes me up with pressure from movement. Last night I put a heating pad on the area as I was thinking it was a cyst. This morning I have an area of redness where the pain is located. At first I thought maybe the redness was from the heating pad, but I haven't had it on for over 6 hours, and the redness on the skin itself is not sensitive to touch.

I have fibrocystic breasts so they always feel lumpy. I typically have cyclic breast pain a week before my menstrual cycle (that was 2 weeks ago, and this pain is different). I am 42 and overweight.

I would think it was from the heating pad, but you should see your doctor any time you are concerned

I second that you should go to your doctor and get it checked out. I certainly don't mean to frighten you but I only discovered I had breast cancer because I had sharp stabbing pains in my left breast. There were no other symptoms. Thankfully my wonderful doctor didn't just turn me away saying that it was just hormonal - she made me go for a mammogram where they found it. Turns out the tumour was located in exactly the same place where I'd been feeling the pain. Both the oncologist and the breast surgeon said that the pain had nothing to do with it! I still don't believe them...............

There is every chance that the pain you are experiencing is hormone related as fluctuating hormones due to perimenopause can cause stabbing pain in the breasts. However, I would still get it checked out. I am forever thankful that I did.
