Scared and Waiting

Hey everyone! I had my first mammogram on Thursday late afternoon. Received a call at 8 am on the next morning from my doc. The radiologist said I had an area of density near my right nipple that was lobular in shape.

Now I'm waiting for them to schedule the 3D mammogram and ultrasound. Breast cancer is very prevelant on both sides of my family. I wish the docs would explain things better instead of making us worry like this. No one explained what any of it meant. And I was so shocked to get a call that soon that my mind went blank when I talked to the doc.

I really wish someone could just tell me if I need to be worried or not. The not knowing is torture.

DeeDee77 well it might just be that...an area of dense tissue. Or a calcium deposit. I have Left Breast cancer and then a lumpectomy to remove the cancer. The right breast has always been suspect to the people doing mamograms for me. I have dense breast tissue, I'm told. They ultrasound it and even did a biopsy of a dense area. No cancer there. So hopefully this is a false alarm but since you have cancer in the family, it is very good that you are keeping close watch over your health. Try not to worry about it and hope all is good and healthy for you.

Well—worrying doesn’t help anything. After your follow-up mammo, you’ll either get a biopsy or not. If a biopsy is recommended, you’ll get an answer shortly after that. Waiting is hard—the conventional wisdom is try to distract yourself as much as possible through this diagnosis. Stay busy. Try to think about other things. Netflix is your friend. ;-)

@ingerp I understand what you are saying, however, the not knowing is awful. With my family history it's hard not to worry. I buried my 40 yr old cousin 2 months ago due to breast cancer. I will take your advice and try not to focus on it the best I can.
