Yay, But Waiting for YAY!

    Hey all,

Went through the call back-diagnostic mammo-ultrasound-US biopsy fun factory last week after an architectural distortion was seen on my screening mammo (age 53). Biopsy says complex sclerosing lesion, but it still has to come out in an excisional biopsy to be sure that that's all it is.

I know the odds are very much in my favor of this being confirmed as benign, but after having gone through my husband's diagnosis of stage 4 cancer a few years ago (he lasted nine months), I'm just not quite ready to be celebrating yet. I see a breast surgeon in about 10 days (might have been sooner but I had to go out of town for two weeks two days after the biopsy), and hopefully the timeline won't go on too long past that. How quickly have people been able to be scheduled for excisional biopsies?

Not at all freaking out, but I hate waiting. And I'm also thinking that now this will probably mean more frequent mammos. An aunt had cancer in her 50s (and is still chugging at 88), and a great-grandmother on each side of the family had it as well. Kind of feel like a CSL diagnosis just starts the clock.

    Thanks for letting me yammer....

    dcnotmd,

I am with you all the way. We don't know until we know.

Keeping a sense of calm while waiting is an endeavor. Wishing you ease of well-being.

Thank you! As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part....
