edited August 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

hello, I am expecting results from the biopsy this afternoon but I ordered the reports from radiologist and she rated BIRAD 4=suspicious. What are the chances this could be benign. When she met me for the initial mammogram she said 80% of calcifications are benign I feel she was too cheerful about that statistic given my family history and I had BC in 2014 just lumpectomy and radiation. I know no one can have an answer for me I guess I'm just looking for support.

Well, technically, she's right. About 80% of BIRADs4 biopsies do come back benign. Of course, that does not factor in your already elevated risk due to family and personal history of breast cancer. I don't think anyone can give you specific stats on that. Here's my way of thinking: Either you have cancer or you don't. In my mind, that means the risk is either 100% yes or 100% no. If you don't have cancer, well, you don't need going to waste time grieving something that's not actually happening. If you do have cancer, there will be plenty of time for grief then. And you just get on with the treatment.

Good luck. I hope this goes the right way for you.

    Hi Gretchy:

I hope your results are good today! I was a BIRAD 4 as I recall. Your dx and mine were very similar when you had your br cancer previously. I was stage 1A too. So sorry you are having to go through another biopsy! =( I hope it is benign!

I can't speak to calcifications. Mammo's don't work for me. I have too dense of tissue they couldn't even see my tumor on 3D! Ultrasound is the only thing that saw my tumor. Did you have a ultrasound too or just Mammo and biopsy?

Hope all goes well with results! Sending a hug yr way!
