I had a Screening Mammogram last week and there was an area of concern in my right breast. Today, I had a Diagnostic Mammogram, and an Ultra-Sound. The findings are:

There are heterogeneously dense fibroglandular elements in the right breast. The previously questioned asymmetric nodular density located laterally in the right breast on the 9:00axis persist with spot compression imaging. No associated calcification or architectural distortion. Limited right breast ultrasound was performed along the 8-9 o'clock axis. In the 9:00position there is a 1.0 x 0.8 x 0.8 cm hypoechoic nodular density present likely corresponding with the mammographic finding. no internal color Doppler flow. There is an adjacent 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.8 hypoechoic nodular density in the 10.00 position right breast. Recommend ultra-sound-guided core bipsy of these areas. Right breast BI_RADS Category 4, suspicious abnormality. These may reflect a complex cyst or fibroadenomas however ultrasound core biopsy is recommended for further evaluation.

Can someone please help me to understand what all of this means, in layman's terms (simple Non-Doctor, English) ? Please. Thank you in advance. :)

There is a breast Radiologist, DJMammo, who is a member here and who often pops by to answer these questions. Until he sees your post, here's my amateur interpretation.

Your have two small solid, or possibly a combination of solid & fluid (which would be a complex cyst) lumps.

There is nothing in the description that sounds overly concerning (no internal color Doppler flow is a good thing) and the fact that the report mentions the possibility of either fibroadenomas or complex cysts suggests that the lumps have a more benign appearance than the appearance of cancer.

Still, anything assessed by the Radiologist to have a greater than 2% risk of cancer is given a BIRADS4 rating and recommended for biopsy. Overall approx. 20%-25% of BIRADS4 biopsies turn out to be cancer and 75%-80% are benign.

Good luck with the biopsy. Hope you get benign results!
