well, when the news broke about the textured implants I had no idea that many of the Allergan tissue expanders would be recalled as well.

I looked at the card they gave me with the model number of my TE'/s, looked at the recall list and there they were!!! What?!?!

My model number doesn't have a "T" at the end but it also does not have an "s" (smooth) It just says 133MX. Allergan Natrelle.

Another thing to worry about in this process!!! Anyone in the same boat? I'm kind of freaking out.

    Hi Lynn,

I have textured implants, so I understand how you are feeling, - but my PS and gyn both say the odds are so small and that I shouldnt freak out.

Yours are tissue expanders? If so, you wont have them for long anyway! Get the smooth implants when the time comes, and you'll have more peace of mind.

    Take a deep breath!

    Hugs from NYC

I also have the recalled TE and had a mild panic attack when I heard about the recall. I've since met with my PS and he examined me and tried to make me feel better by telling me that the risk is for people who have them for a LONG period of time--- at least two years. I feel a little better but am really eager to go ahead and get the exchange done ASAP!

    Hi Hodgepodge,

Well that's good news at least. My anxiety seems to be daily over this. Ugh!! Can't wait to have them out also.

Wishing you the best with your surgery!!

I believe the tissue expanders have been recalled because they have the same BIOCELL outer shell as the breast implants. That said, I've read a lot about this recall from countries all around the world, and I haven't seen a single reference to someone being diagnosed with BIA-ALCL because of a tissue expander. I think the expanders just got caught in the recall net because all BIOCELL products have been recalled.

As for the BIOCELLbreast implants, of millions of these implants in use, currently approximately 600 cases of BIA-ALCL have been identified worldwide.
