Hello,

I just want to start out by saying I've lurked for the past two months and read many of the articles posted on this forum, and I want to thank you all for sharing your stories. I am very sorry that for those who have had a positive diagnosis that it turned out that way. I thank you all for the information. I hope that someone can help me here and give me some advice.

I have an appt. with my ob/gyn next week, but for the past two months I have had some issues with one of my breasts. Truth be told I don't pay attention to them much, and maybe now that I am having issues I'm overreacting, but I'm worried. I have been having pain in my left breast, sort of in the "11 o'clock" position. The pain is shooting and isn't always constant, but comes more than goes, if that makes sense. In addition, my left areola is super sensitive and hurts - I cant even put on a bra without lingering pain. Also, I've become very lopsided - the left breast is noticeably smaller than the other. I used to wear sports bras if I was just running out to the store or to take my daughter to school, but am too embarrassed to now. My left nipple is also very pink in the middle, whereas my right one is the same color it's always been. I don't feel a lump per se, but the area in my areola where it hurts feels "weird", and definitely not like the other breast.

I do drink a lot of coffee, but I've cut back since reading that it can exasperate breast pain. I have hypothyroidism, which I know can cause breast pain. However, I've had it for a few years. I'm just afraid I will be dismissed, as I am not an aggressive person. I'm also obese, which I know can contribute to breast pain, but also can lead to dismissive drs. I waited though a cycle to make sure it wasnt related, but the pain remains the same.

I obviously don't want this to be bc, but all of my reading doesn't lead me to a good place. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you,

Mary

I wouldn’t start off thinking I might be dismissed. I have almost never seen anyone come on here that wasn’t sent for appropriate imaging and/or testing. Sometimes the testing shows no serious concerns and there just isn’t an explanation for breast pain, but you see other changes and I’m sure your doctor will find it appropriate to investigate
