I have gone line by line on the pathology report and found what it meant. Most of the info came from Hopkins. I still have one line I do not understand. Here is the paragraph:

E-cadherin -shows retained staining, supporting a diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma

p63 - show loss of staining around the areas of invasive ductal carcinoma

SMMHC - show loss of staining around the area of invasive ductal carsinoma

What is LOSS OF STAINING?

Any ideas?

Here's a link - my takeaway is that staining occurs in benign tissue so "loss of staining" is an indication of cancer:

Wench5312- have you already had surgery? They use dyes marking the area removed. I'd be guessing, call tomorrow and ask.

They are particular pathology tests that narrow down the diagnosis, as to invasive cancer versus atypical cells, etc. Google P63 staining and SMMHC staining. Looks like to me the tests confirm whether the diagnosis is iDC versus ADH, etc.
