After getting a second opinion of my wife's Metastatic Breast Cancer at City of Hope from Dr. Lavasani, we met with my wife's primary care Oncologist yesterday to determine the next step of care due to above. To give some background here, she had a single mastectomy in 1997 followed up by IV Chemo at City of Hope and then 5 years of Tamoxifen and no further treatment till January 2017 when a back ache turned into Stage IV Cancer in most of her bones/spine, microscopically in her lungs and three brain lesions. One of the lesions in the spine was radiated and removed. She had a Gamma Knife procedure that killed the brain lesions. She has HR2+ CD 4 & 6 Cancer (could be not totally correct). She was put on Ibrance in 2017 and an Letrozole and this year blood tests showed her tumor markers were steadily rising in blood tests. This past month the latest scan showed that the Cancer has spread to her Liver and three more lesions in her lungs. What is really crazy is that she feels great and other than an occasional back ache relieved by Ibuprofen. Since Ibrance and Letrozole have failed, we decided yesterday to follow recommendations from City of Hope and my wife was placed on Tamoxifen and Oral Chemo of Verzenio. She also gets an injection to help her bones each month. It was also decided to have a scan every three months to check for lesions instead of every 6 months. Further advancement of the Cancer may result in IV Taxol infusion. Dr.Lavasani felt it was too early to go to IV since she is feeling so good.
