Hi all. I’m new to the group and glad to find a place of support and understanding while I wait.

Question: Has anyone had any cancer or non-cancer issues within the area around or directly under a 3rd nipple? Mine is on my breast just a tad above where the bottom of my breast meets my chest. It’s not “active” (no breast milk or sensitivities).

Quick history - I’m 39 and have been monitored with mammograms every two- years or so for the past 6 years. I have had 1st cousins with BC as well as aunts, all on my dad’s side. All my female cousins have tested positive for BRCA. My mom was adopted and we had no family history to look at. I did the BRCA testing and ended up being the “black sheep” of the family...in a good way!

It’s been almost 3-years (I’m bad) between my last mammogram and the one I have scheduled next week. I think the test mademe a little less concerned...which I know is stupid!

What prompted me was some dull “pulling” sensation right where my 3rd nipples is. At times it would almost be a sharp pain. I’ve been good about self exams and I feel like I’m pretty in-tune with my body. But more recently I noticed what felt like a hole. Like if I take my pinky finger, push on my 3rd nipple (under side of my left breast) it’s almost like my whole pinky can go into a hole in my breast tissue. It didn’t used to do that. My new OBGYN did an exam, felt it and then felt a small “cyst” between my nipples.

She didn’t seem too concerned but ordered a mammogram and a US. My concern is how different the tissue below the skin feels. Maybe it’s just my body changing. But I lost a cousin at this very age from what started as BC. How do you not have a little bit of fear waiting for a test like this. I was never nervous for my previous ones but I also didn’t feel anything that had me concerned. It was truly preventative. This is actually looking for/at something that IS different and new.

Now I wait for July 19th for the tests...and then wait some more....

Hang in there my wait buddies!
