Now an ovarian cyst and possible fibroid

Options

I just had a pelvic ultrasound because of having pain in my right ovary for almost two months now. My pcp is out of town, so this is being dealt with by her np. I finally got some info just now - a small cyst and possible fibroid. The radiologist said follow up in a year. I messaged my onc right away - he said he’s ok with waiting a year.

Am I over reacting? I’m post menopausal, so having a cyst is not as common as someone who’s ovulating. I have read that there’s a higher chance of it becoming cancerous when you’re post menopausal and have a bc history. I should get a phone call tomorrow from the np with a more complete report (she was gone today so someone else was kind enough to at least give me a bit of info). Should I ask for a referral to an oncologicsl gynecologist? I really don’t want surgery, but everything I’ve read suggested that if you’re post menopausal, they typically take that ovary to avoid any chance of it becoming cancer.

What would you do? Not worry about it? Or get a second opinion? I was surprised that my onc said I could wait. Maybe he didn’t realize I’m post menopausal...

I was found to have a R ovarian cyst a year ago, just at my BC diagnosis. My doc recommended waiting a year and retesting. I just went for the 1 year workup. The cyst is still there and really doesn't seem to have changed. My ob/gyn wanted to take my ovaries out, but my onc said it's really not necessary-- I should just be monitored every 6 months with ultrasound. My ovarian tumor marker is unchanged and I'm not really symptomatic, other than some mild aches in that area. Oh, and I also have 2 fibroids. I'm many years post-menopausal. I'm really ok with this plan, although I'm usually distrustful of docs.... It just makes sense to me to wait and watch a bit. I hope this helps!

That’s good to know that my plan seems in line then. I hate the paranoia bc creates.
