My experience at Emory and Winship

I went to Emory for my mammogram. I was told there was a spot they were concerned with. I went back for an ultrasound and they said it was a small mass and they wanted to biopsy. They biopsied and it came back benign. The doctor that biopsied the mass had told me before she didn't believe it to be cancer, but when it came back benign she said she didn't agree with the pathologist and and she thought it was cancer. She said she told me it wasn't cancer cause she didn't want to scare me off. I was really upset with her dishonesty. The director at Winship asked me to meet with him. He talked to me for an hour and said he really wanted me to have this lumpectomy. I scheduled the procedure and had it done last Wednesday. I started feeling bad, unable to breath. Went into the Emory er on Saturday and was told I was fine after some blood work and X-rays. I was discharged. They called me back two hours later saying I needed to come back. At that time they told me they punctured my lung during the lumpectomy and it collapsed. I was in the hospital until yesterday. I had two tubes while I was there to inflate it. I still have some air and they say it might correct itself or not. Also found out that the mass was benign so I had a lumpectomy for no reason and now I'm suffering from a punctured lung and Emory could care less. They're attitude is things happen. I'm sharing my experience so you can decide if this is the kind of place you would like to go if you find yourself in my position.

Regarding your lung, in my most recent reconstructive surgery my lung was nicked. Minor...compared to a puncture, but I am asthmatic and had difficulty breathing for 4 weeks, especially with a compression bra. 6 weeks later it seems to be healing itself. However, an actual puncture might not...a second opinion maybe?...there is a thread here where someone told the story of their punctured lung...maybe reading her story might be helpful.
