Have a question: anyone have any experience with a 3d stereotatic biopsy? I just had a 2d today (for microcalcifications) which I separately posted about to help any other first timers waiting for one-not bad at all.

I have a separate area of architectural distortion on the same side they were going to later image on MRI and maybe do an MRI biopsy after the microcalcification results were back (and also waiting for MRI for the proper time in my cycle), but I guess the radiologist consulted with the breast surgeon about what test to do in the interim. There seemed to be some concern about false positives on an MRI (screening part I assume) so the surgeon recommended a 3d stereotactic biopsy be done for the distortion somewhere else. I am perimenopausal (age 46 maybe why?) The distortion can only be seen on 3d mammo right now not 2d or ultrasound but possibly can be seen on MRI of course. (My imaging center has a 3d screening mammo machine not 3d biopsy machine.) Two hospitals here have 3d biopsy capabilities, but they are like a one hour drive away, maybe slightly more. They are trying to help me get an appt at one of them in the next few weeks. Thoughts on this approach of 3d stereotactic over MRI....or experiences anyone?

Djmammo, do you think 3d stereotactic is better than an MRI in a case like this? What are your thoughts about that rationale to avoid false positives?
