Anyone have recurrence after 13 years.

after13 years cancer free, I am having a persistent pain in the sit bone area of the pelvis for at least a month. I am having to wait 2 weeks for mri which has been mental torture. I had a 2.5 cm tumor combined between two foci, her2pos, er/prneg, one lymph node pos. I had adriamycin, cytosine, herceptin, taxol , mastectomy, radiation. I was told previously that it probably would have recurred much earlier, but who knows? When I was diagnosed in 2006 herceptin hadn’t been used that long for early stage. Any comments?

    Hi Daisybell,

I'm new to this site. As I was going through the topics, I read your post because my sister was diagnosed with Breast Cancer stage 1. Later she was told she was HER2postive and endured a fusion for a year after Chemo/Radiation.

    How are you doing now?

as your sister is stage 1, I think she has an excellent chance of a full recovery. I was stage II, with a positive node er/pr neg and her2 pos. My cancer was not detected by mammogram. I was treated with A/C and taxol/ herceptin. Also mastectomy and radiation. I was diagnosed in 2006 when I was 47 years old. I’ve had a few scares over the years but overall done great. Now having another scare about possible bone metastasis and having an mri tomorrow, unfortunately I may not get the results fight away so I’m scared. Hope it’s another false alarm.

Now there is even more known about treating your sister’s type of cancer so I would be very optimistic. Hope this helps

mri shows tendonitis, nothing suspicious, so still 13 years since diagnosis and still ok

Glad to hear it was not a met.

We are very similar as far as time out from diagnosis and treatment.

I was also diagnosed in 2006 (November). Stage 1 IDC, ER/PR neg/ Her2 +, 4 AC with one year herceptin.

This far out from treatment, I would not have jumped immediately to suspecting a met from pain and I was going to reassure you until I read that you had your test results.

Are you aware that as hormone negative, HER positive, our chances of recurrence become lower the further out we are from diagnosis and treatment? This is also true for all hormone negative, HER2 negative cancers.

At this point, our risk is pretty close to zero. While the risk will always be there, I no longer worry about recurrence when I have pain, which is a good thing as I am now approaching 69 and the aches and pains are more common.
