Hi I just got my blood results back. I am not sure how to read the results. Can someone help me by explaining them to be, if they are in correct levels ? I am meeting my doctor tomorrow, but just wanted to know before I got there....

Serum Creatinine : 1.2 (0.5 - 1.1) --- Can they still do PET scan ?
FSH : 22.04 mIU/mL & Estradiol(E2) : 6.99 pg/ml
I am on Lupron & Examestene. Does the above FSH & E2 levels show if it's working or not ?

AT78, Hello! I am a retired lab tech. The creatinine level is a measure of kidney function. 1.2 is almost normal and should not stop you from having any imaging. Impaired kidneys can have problems clearing the dye from your body, which is why they check that. FSH or follicle stimulating hormone, along with Estradiol are hormones that are used to check for menopause. I do not remember the exact normal ranges for them, and the ranges are dependent on age and other factors. If they are low, it would indicate that the Lupron is working. I would pose the question to your MO or onc. nurse.

    hope this helps! Sincerely, MJH

P.S. a blood sugar or glucose of over 200 will shut down a PET scan. So if you are diabetic, make sure it's under control. The radioactive tracer used is mixed with a dextrose solution so that the highly metabolic cells have something to munch on. The activity level of those areas is what shows tumor cells on the scan.
