I have been diagnosed with LCIS and am having another vacuum assisted biopsy tomorrow.

I do not want to watch and wait like a ticking time bomb.

I am 50 years old

And want a double mastectomy for my own mental and physical health

Should I be allowed this choice

My LCIS was found during my lumpectomy for Lobular carcinoma, but I'm not having a BMX. I may have LCIS all through both breast, but I think with the close monitoring I'll receive they will catch any invasive early. May never happen, but if it does I'll do the BMX. Guess you should ask your insurance company if you can have the double Mx.

It is important to understand a bmx is no guarantee you won't get a recurrence either locally or distant. I had 2 tumors one ILC and one IDC. There seems to be confusion on ILC in particular, data shows that roughly one third of lobular cancer are found in both breasts. Some seem to worry it will travel to the unaffected breast that is not true. I had a left side mx the right side shows no suspicious areas on mammogram or MRI. Textbook clean my mo was confident AI drugs would be good protection.

I certainly can understand wanting a bmx for LCIS and ILC since it may go by undetected.

An LCIS diagnosis can be very stressful. Do take some time to research your options. Perhaps get two opinions. You may wish to give the drugs a try and see how you do. Best wishes to you.
