Can a breast infection increase risk for cancer?

This question may be stupid and I apologize if it offends anyone but can someone please weigh in?

    Not a stupid question. There was a Scandinavian study of mastitis some years ago - large numbers since they had access to the entire population's medical records, which concluded no.

    On the other hand, I feel as though my episodes while pregnant and then attempting to nurse a premie, may have set the stage with inflammation and dilated ducts. A combination of factors might have contributed to the two tumors which showed up decades later. So much is still unknown about development of malignancies, with even less understanding of the metastatic process...
