Flap surgery vs implants

Hi - would love your thoughts:

I had a skin and nipple saving BMX last week with TE's implanted as place holders.  I will likely need radiation, but got chemo out of the way pre-surgery.

All three surgeons I consulted (BS and 2 PSs) advised I wait until after radiation for final reconstruction and all three recommended I not do flat surgery right away since I'm still recovering from chemo.

Now my choice is to replace the TEs with either silicone or saline implants, or to have flap surgery.  Honestly I like the idea of flap surgery as it is a more permanent solution.  I'm also concerned about implanting something foreign in my body with implants.

That said, the BMX surgery was harder than I expected and I'm grateful right now that I did not do it all at once.  If I had to decide right this moment, I'd go for implants.  But am I overreacting to my recent surgery?  I'm 47, so I'll have to change out my implants several times if I go that route.

So, if you had implants, are you happy with the outcome?  What was the exchange surgery like and how was your recovery?

If you had flap surgery, what was your recovery like?

Thanks for your time!

Kristin
