edited June 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

Thanks for everyone's response in my post in waiting for test results. Met surgeon today. Path tests were not back. She told me based on ultrasound pics she would recommend removal with lumpectomy no matter path results. Lump was 11mmx17x15. She told me path results will be back by end of week & if positive (as she suspects) she recommend genetic testing which will take approximately 4 days due to history of colon & some prostate cancer in my family. if any genetic testing comes back positive for breast cancer it may influences my decision of lumpectomy (with radiation) vs.mastectomy

We are supposed to travel to Portugal in 10 days for 10 'days. BS said "go & have fun. Let's get all test results in, explore your options & we'll plan surgery end of June or early July.” She offered small doses of estrogen blocker to ease my anxiety if path comes back estrogen positive & discussed compression socks etc. the majority of me agrees & knows 10 days of travel won’t make a huge difference & I can’t make informed decisions for about 10-14 days anyway. But, the other part says stay home, plan surgery, investigate, prepare,

Thanks for listening & feedback.

Definitely take the trip! I know how nerve wracking it is to not have all the information and you will feel better once you have a plan in place....But, in the mean time go and enjoy yourself! Take that time to relax and live life. While it can feel like it, at the end of the day it's not a medical emergency, more emotional. Even when you have all the information you likely wouldn't get in for a procedure in that short amount of time anyway. From diagnosis to surgery I waited a month and a half. You will have plenty of time to investigate and prepare!

I had a vacation/work trip to India between an inconclusive mammogram and a biopsy. The radiologist was then on vacation for a week. Basically, the biopsy was delayed by a month. When it came back positive and IDC was found by MRI on the other side, I asked my surgeon if it would be okay to delay surgery a couple of weeks so I could set things up at work for my absence. Given the low proliferation rate, he okayed this. From initial questionable mammogram to 3D mammogram to biopsy to MRI to surgery was 3 months. It's been 4 1/2 years since surgery and things are still good. I was much more relaxed and able to focus on my health by completing on my trip and organizing my job. If the radiologist and surgeon had said no, I wouldn't have done those things.

ksusan - thank you! I know in my gut it will take Some time to get things set up. BS said it takes about a month from actual diagnosis to surgery.

MBPooch -that is in one of my mantras this week. This is an emotional emergency. Not physical. So hard to remember some times. Thank yiu

Go and enjoy the trip! Just think of the wonderful memories you'll build up. I had three surgeries last year, and hubby and I traveled in between (just a lot of day trips and brief getaways), and again before radiation finally started. I remember some of the trips better than the medical crap.
