Who does the Staging?

No one has discussed Stage with me yet. Granted we've been busy with treatment and getting test results back. I see breast surgeon tomorrow for a follow up and I see the MO for the first time on June 12. Can anyone please tell me who is going to tell me what Stage I am? I've done a self evaluation of Stage IIA (T2, N0, M0) based on test results (my tumor was 2.5cm), books and information online, but you know.....

I've read this, which is very interesting. Really need a doctor to tell me which is which in my case. But which one?

My staging and my grade were both in the path report from my lumpectomy. Can you access yours and see if it's in there?

Yes I have it. I don't remember seeing it there, but I will look again. I remember seeing the grade. Thanks!

My staging was done by the BS after the Path report. Ironically he staged me incorrectly according to my MO. He staged me at2a and my oncologist said I’m a 1b.

So I’m just back from breast surgeon and asked the question. Turns out my team doesn’t find staging helpful with breast cancer because of all the other known & important factors besides those that determine stage. She told me Stage2A if she’s pressed but they won’t be using it. Instead, I’m given all the details, results, and information. Works for me.

My Oncotype gives me a 10% chance of distant recurrence over 9 years. I like to think it’s 90%it won’t.

I had bilateral BC w stage 3A and 1A. True my stages scare the light out of me at times. When that happens I look at my 92 yr old father who survived COPD, two consecutive strokes within 30 day period at 91 and pneumonia very recently. He kicked and screamed his way out of rehabs to get home. Yeah when your time is up you r up and vice versa.

I find doctors who don’t find staging helpful irresponsible. Regardless of what treatment they plan to prescribe your stage is a determining factor. I don’t understand why they are so reluctant to tell you. Plus I’m sure Stage IV ladies would vehemently disagree with your doctors.

I know it’s not the intention of any medical team to frighten their patients with a high stage DX but it is what it is. If you are indeed Stage 2A that is comforting.

I didn't get a stage yet either. My lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy was four days ago. I have to wait approximately 2 weeks for the pathology to come back. I was given Grade 3 so far and size 2.7 cm so far. Thinking of you though and wishing the best for you.

edwards, yes IIA is very comforting indeed. Perhaps the MO will discuss the staging more.

Star111, good luck with your pathology report. The waiting is difficult. I’ll be thinking of you as well. I was given a Grade 2 in the biopsy pathology and was corrected to a Stage 1 when the tumor was out and they could really analyze it. So you never know
