Letrozole price increase?

Options

Hello everyone. I recently went to pick up my letrozole prescription from Walgreens and my portion of the payment went up from about $6 to $150. When I called the insurance they said that the price of the drug had gone up. I haven't had a chance to go back to Walgreens to investigate. Has anyone else noticed a price increase in their medications this month?

I recently switched to aromasin (generic) but I had also refilled my letrozole prescription right before the switch. My co-pay was unchanged. Are you taking a generic version

I thought Letrozole was the generic form of Femara? That jump seems way too high but could well be true. I would call another pharmacy and your insurance carrier

Do you have a Costco near you? When I was taking letrozole, it was cheaper to pay the cash price at Costco than to use my insurance through my normal pharmacy. You can also look on GoodRX for other less expensive places to get your medication. There is often a printable coupon that will save you money. It currently lists 8 pharmacies that sell letrozole for significantly less than Walgreens! Good luck.

I only paid 12.50 for mine a few days ago. Also using GoodRx at Giant Eagle pharm.

Thanks everyone! It turns out that it was Wal-greens that jacked up the price. Someone else told me about Good Rx too and I was able to find it much cheaper at the local Arizona grocery store where I shop. It was only $30 for 90 day supply (cash price). So bizarre that there is such a huge price difference across pharmacies.

IAmACat - Oh no! Did you pay the $500 at CVS?? I went to pick up a different prescription one time at CVS and when I arrived, they warned me that it was expensive. I told them I would need to know how much before they rung it up. It was on the order of $1,300 for 90 days! I bluntly told them that I couldn't afford that and was about to just walk away. The pharmacist asked me to wait and started looking up things on her phone and punching things into their computer. She finally said that she could get it down to $10 but that would be for 30 days at a time. SOLD!

She found a coupon or drug company co-pay card or something similar for me to use. Don't be afraid to speak up. Not all pharmacists will go the extra mile for you but the good ones will.
